Canelo Alvarez, full name Santos Saúl Álvarez Barragán was born (July 18, 1990) in the city of Guadalajara, Jalisco. His family moved to Juanacatlan, Jalisco when he was at the age of five. He grew up in the family’s farm and learned to horseback ride. He has eight siblings among which he is the youngest one. Like him, all of his brothers are professional boxers.
He first entered into boxing at the tender age of 13. He debuted to boxing after watching his older brother Rigoberto Alvarez’s going through a professional boxing. On September 14, 2013, he fought against WBA super welterweight champion and The Ring Magazine’s no. 1 pound for pound fighter, Floyd Mayweather Jr. The fight was won by Mayweather with the majority twelve round decision. Besides, Mayweather, he also fought against many other top boxers including Alfredo Angulo, Erislandy Lara, James Kirkland, Miguel Cotto, Amir Khan and Liam Smith.
